ZeroV Legislative Updates: January 6
January 06, 2026
Today marked the beginning of the 2026 legislative session. This “long” session is a budget session, by the end of which lawmakers will pass a two-year spending plan that funds state agencies, programs, and services. The state budget determines what the commonwealth can provide for Kentuckians.
ZeroV represents Kentucky's 15 state-designated domestic violence programs at the policy-making table. State dollars make up about 47% of the combined budget of our programs and fund critical services such as
- 24/7 domestic violence hotlines,
- emergency shelter,
- legal advocacy,
- food, housing, and transportation assistance,
- and more for Kentucky's survivors of domestic violence
.
The well-being of survivors is our top policy priority. Throughout this session, ZeroV will advocate for adequate funding for domestic violence services. We will also advocate for policies that support survivor safety, healing, and thriving. As a service to our community, we will provide weekly updates throughout the 2026 Legislative Session on the status of proposed legislation impacting survivors of intimate partner violence (IPV).
.
You can stay up-to-date with the bills we're monitoring by using our Bill Tracker. Once 2026 bills are released to the public, we will populate the tracker with those that could impact either the safety and well-being of survivors or the social conditions and systems that spark, enable, and amplify IPV.
